Assalamu aleikum Dr. Bilal,
I’m located in sharjah and was wondering if you counsel married couples. Shukran.
Assalam-o-alaikum Dr.Philips,
I wanted to ask you a question related to an issue but the email address that youve given on your website has something wrong with it.
questions@bilalphilips.com
This email id does not work. How can I contact you?
You may ask your question here, hopefully related to the issues of the blog, as this was the purpose of the blog.
Thanks for the Information.
Assalaam Alykum Wr Wb!
Iam thankful to you for your valuable preachings in Fanar and may Allah bless you in your future endeavors . i have a doubt that my name is Bushmon, which i believe doesn’t belongs to the islamic names.in my certificates, passport and other reccords my name is mentioned as same. so it is very hard to change my name officially. But i introduce myself as Basheer to many and i am knowing as Basheer as well. so i like to know that is there any sin if i don’t change my name and introducing my name as Basheer.
There is no sin in the name Bushmon as far as I can see, unless it has a meaning containing shirk in your language. To change it officially is better. But it that is too difficult, you may continue to use Basheer among your friends and acquaintences.
Asslamu Alaikum warah wb brother. Jazakhallah khair for introducing online islamic university, recently i have joined it. I have posted about your University in my blog too. InshahAllah i will learn more about Islam From your University.
Jazakhallah khair brother…
May Allah bless you and your family

My name is Mahamadou Sacko from MALI, I just come to discovert you, but I must tell you that I love you so much, God bless you.
Assalamu ‘Alaikum brother,
All praise is for Allah. I have seen you in Facebook social website. I also found many modern girls and boys in your fan club. I feel that under your fan club there seems to be a way for shaitaan. Your creation of blog is good Alhamdulillah. But facebook is Islamically not correct as it opens a door to shaitaan and why do you want to be the cause for it brother? To do dawah and Islaah there are methods which was prescribed by Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. If we go away from the Manhaj of sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam will Allah be pleased with us? You mentioned that you have been placed 159th position among the most influential muslim men. Brother! you have opened the blog to share Islamic views. Is it not hidden and subtle form of self proudness or self importance and Allah knows best about you! Brother! excessive familiarity is shaitaan! Excessive socialism is Danger! May Allah reward you for your Islamic works and Please keep going with your Lectures but you have to follow the Manhaj of Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam to please Allah.
Jazakkallah
Mohammed Eliyas
Wa alaykum salaam Brother Eliyas. I appreciate your words of advice and I ask Allah to reward you for your sincere intention in warning me of the potential harm that lurks in facebook. However, what you are saying is similar to what was said when the internet first began, when TV and radio first were invented. These are tools my brother, which may be used for Islamic benefit or may be abused. I did not set up the fan club nor did I ask anyone to do that for me, and I have tried to advise those who did to correct themselves and only use it to inform the public of material from my books. I am currently discussing with some people how to shut down rogue sites. I entered face book to promote my da’wah projects in order to encourage others to do the same, and to encourage enrollment in IOU. Al hamdulillaah, since I began, the number of new enrollees per month has jumped by 1,000!!! For January, we had 2,040 new people enroll in the IOU. Prior to that our average was 1,000. So, the benefits are already being reaped. Al hamdulillaah. Personally, I do not confirm any friends who are female without hijaab. Whenever I confirm a friend, I use it as an opportunity to send them information about the IOU. As for your statement: “You mentioned that you have been placed 159th position among the most influential muslim men.” It is not true. Please go back and read the post. It only said that on page 159. I didn’t say i am in position 159. Furthermore, if you looked at the post before it, you will see that I was talking about the IOU, and the info about me in the book was based on the IOU. That was what I was informing people about. Al hamdulillaah, the IOU was recognized as a great benefit to the Ummah and due to it my name was mentioned. Maa shaa Allaah. So, rather than take the worst possible assumption about why I mentioned, it would have been better to have taken the best. Always look for excuses for your brothers, rather than think the worst. So, as far as I am concerned, I don’t see that my presence on facebook or the blog using them as tools to inform people about the deen and promote Islamic projects is against the manhaj of the Salaf. They used the available halaal means of media to promote the deen. That was their manhaj.
Assalamu alaikum Shaykh Bilal,
First I would like to thank you for the opportunity to contact you directly. I have been following your website closely and I found this blog which I intend to follow very closely all the way here in Australia!. Ya Shaykh my question is, in Qatar are there many good Islaamic centres which teach the Arabic language which you recommend? And would you recommend it in Qatar or another Muslim Country?
Also, just a side note – Is it a save assume that on your website all the audio downloads (lectures) are free of copyright, hence we can make copies and distribute these titles for free ?
Jazakamullahu khayrun
Hamdy
Please access the Islamic Online University for further knowledge (www.islamiconlineuniversity.com).
There are no good Arabic institutes here in Qatar. The best are in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen and Sudan. I would recommend Egypt as there are more options there and institutes like al-Fajr have a very good reputation and highly qualified staff.
As regards the audio lectures. You may copy and distribute them freely.
Jazakamullahu Khayrun
Dear Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips,

Aassalamu alaikum Shaykh.I sent me and my husband`s application to Umm Al Qura university November 2009.In January we paid $1074 to take all the seminars of Almaghrib institution for whole year.Almaghrib classes basically for part time students. But before inshAllah going to UQUM I want to start as a full time student.we live in NYC.Almaghrib seminars are 2 weekend in every month. So I am engaged with class only for 4 and half days out of 30 days in a month.I know only couple suras. So I need tajweed,Quran memorization teacher,Arabic language.I want all of them in one institution.I am 23,have 13 months son.Day before yesterday I got this webside from a sister.I regestered for free IOU courses.Where can I regester for free Bachelor in islamic sciences which is supposed to launch from March?
Assalamu Alaikum,Dr.Bilal. I am still a new Muslim and stay in Dubai now with my parents, who are Non-Muslims.I converted 6 months ago.Alhamdullillah!I am Russian. As being a Muslim i feel vey happy and peacfull.I go to Islamic Information Center in Dubai and I really like that place.I have got so good info from the teachers, which are there. And just recently I was on Wafa’s lecture in Al Qarama Masjid. And I have got your book “Islamic studies” from there. And I am so glad to read it because the English is very easy to understand for me and I think not only for me.Mashaallah!I have a question or better to say I would like to get your opinion and advice, please.I have a Muslim man,who made a proposal for me,we are engaged, but without my parent’s agreement. He is Nigerian and also a new Muslim,Abdulrahman. By Allah’s will he was got to jail to embrace to Islam there. And he is innocent, this is true and I know him well.Subhanaallah,he is happy being Muslim as well, only he is in jail now for 9 months and they not do anything to release him.He doesn’t get a proper study about Islam there, even so someone comes and brings the books there. People are inside all different and even the Muslim ones behave so bad and do bad things and smoke, and he is the only one,who doesn’t smoke,so imagine how it is for his health bad.And if I go for a visit to give Islamic Books they do not allow to give to him and even the Holy Quran. For the begining he kept his religion only between Allah and himself, but the policemen can see him always there. And once I knew that if someone converts to Islam,at least they should take less actions for him,so I have got the Certificate for him and brought a copy to him,so he presented it at Court, but they just keep telling him that the Hearing changed to next month. So it is also not good to ask someone’s help, even so he doesn’t have anyone else here, except me,who he can call and talk about Islam and he can trust and become more happier and feel that by Allah’s will he will get out one day.So that is why I deceided to ask your opinion and an advice. And really,i am so worried about his Faith being there among those people.
Djazzakal lahu khairan.Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah
Dear Dr Bilal,
It is possible that I may start working in Qatar (insha-Allah) in a few months. I was wondering if you are holding classes that my family and I may benefit from while in Qatar.
Also do you think you might be coming to the UAE in the near future to do a talk or a short course?
Jazaka-Allahu khayran

wa alaykum salaam. Maa shaa Allaah for your keeness to pay for a full year of weekend seminars. Alhamdulillaah you have also started on the free IOU seminars and I hope that you will consistently complete them. The BA can be applied for from the same site. The new BAIS site is currently being readied. However, you may send in your documents from now to start the process of registration. Please forward notarized, attested copies of your highschool certificate to aboo.mustafa@gmail.com. We here at IOU welcome you on board and I personally commend you on your sincere efforts to gain knowledge of the religion. And, for your added information, we will have tajweed and Qur’aan memorization.
wa alaykum salaam, and welcome to Islam. May Allah bless your Islam and your Eemaan, and grant you his bounties to seek knowledge of His religion (join the IOU ASAP to further your knowledge), and favor you for your efforts for our Nigerian brother in jail. I’m surprised to hear of his bad treatment, as what I have heard before about the jails have been positive. Anyway, I would suggest that you report that to my student, Sister Wafa, and give her my salaam as well. Anyway, I’m not really clear as to exactly what advice you are seeking, so if you can be more precise, I would try to advise.
wa alaykum salaam.
Currently I’m just doing the Khutbah and holding university classes at one of the local institutes. I don’t think I’ll be coming to the UAE any time in the near future as there are visa problems due to American influence.
Dear Dr Bilal,
My name is Mary, I need to speak to you personally regarding some experience speaking in Arab. I need someone who could translate and interpret these words. I would like to elaborate more if I could speak to you personally.
Thanks & Rgds
Mary
Dear Dr. Bilal,
Thanks for your reply.
Can anyone enrol in the university classes you mentioned – or is it only for certain people?
That’s a shame about the visa problems …
ma`assalam
You’re welcome brother Faysal,
Anyone can register and study in the free short courses and seminars. However, for the BA students must have a high school certificate. As to the visa, it is Allah’s Qadar and there is good in it.
Assalamu alaikum,Dr.Bilal.This is Aliya.I already told you about the situation of Abdulrahman in the jail. And you asked me to be more precise.I do not know what else I should tell you,but only I want to know, why in Dubai so much mischief as it is Muslim country and for him being Muslim,he must be very sabr by seeing all these bad things what the Muslim people do around him.And plus they do not allow him to study in proper way and keep him in the jail for no reason, just to get a salary, they did lie about him and do not release him till now.Is it because of his nationality? As I know in Islam there is nothing likethat, but why then the Muslims do that? And I talked already with sister Wafa and Yahya, but they do not want to put themself in this case. And even I talked to a bigger person and refuse to do something for him. When he just started the converstaion, the person was so friendly, but when he heard about his nationality, his voice changed inmmediatly.I am really sorry to say about all these things in public, but this is truth and we are not looking for a help,as Allah has all power of everything and we rely on Him Alone,it is only to understand what is happening with real Muslims, where are they?
Aassalamu alaikum Shaykh.I need your advice.Would you please tell the exact date of launching BAIS.I am loosing my patient. My story is extremely pathetic.I was born in a poor family in Bangladesh. From my 14 years old age I have been looking for universal truth and justice. My goal was to search all the religions and accept the truth without caring family. At 15 I was convinced on Islam didnt find any contradiction. Then my goal transformed into memorizing entire Quran,Hadeeth, deeply study under scholars in Madinah.I had no access, then involved with islamic movement.I worked hard with them from 16 to 20 until 2007.I got married at 18.I fell in extreme confusion about islam as a just lifestyle for women from middle of 2007 which lasted middle of 2009.I came NYC May 2008.I was a student of English language and literature until Jan 2008 and completed 4 semesters out of 8.I took 8 Almaghrib seminars from July 2008 to Jan 2010.In March 2009 I took Aqeedah class with S.Y.Qadhi.Right after then I started to read tafseer of Anam, after continuous reading and deep thinking I found out -1.I didn`t know and learn from the scholars who Allah(swt) really is?2.My conversion into islam was not for hereafter rather for the absolute love of Allah and character of Messenger(swa). My roll models were Shahid Hasanul Bannah,Shahid Sayyed Qutb,Jaynab Al Gazali,Yusuf Al Qardawi from my age 17 who were stepping out in my dream, imagination. Now my question s are-1.7 years have been passed since I set up my goal to be a student of knowledge yet my account is very poor in regard knowledge of Aqeedah,Quran memorization,Arabic language which make me extremely drepessed how should I reconcile it while I find someone have the same desire and they reached their goal either for gender or family background or financial capability?2.Give me some tips and resource to highly motivate my husband to be active to master the wealth for the biggest purpose to migrate for seeking the Knowledge of Allah which is the number one barrier for me now.It is very important to know men psychology and how to win it to be a student of knowledge(me).
wa alaykum salaam. I would suggest that you carry on this issue either in my fb inbox or at my email aabphilips@gmail.com. Please resend this mail to either place as its not appropriate for discussion here.
Aassalamu alaikum. For Umm Al Qura University after noterized attested from county clerk office then secretary of state then D.C attestion, for IOU is it the same process?Which date class will be start inshAllah?Do I have to send my certificate through mail?Is it only my high school diploma and transcript or also university credits I have to submit?
wa alaykum salam Sister Aliya. I would suggest that you follow this up in my personal mailbox: aabphilips@gmail.com as this is not an appropriate forum for such extended discussion.
Shaykh,Assalamu alaikum. Please tell me where do I have to attest my diploma? My heart is extremely hungry to study in your university.I have been making dua to Allah for long time to start Tajweed, memorization,Arabic language, computer, tafseer.Shaykh please tell me when it will start, charge us a little bit but don`t cancel your project for the sake of Allah.
As-salamu alaykum Sheikh,May Allah bless u.
I wanted to suggest that 3 new courses be added to IOU.
1)Tajweed
2)Grammar
3)Seerah
I think these courses will be of great benifit for people like me.
Jazak Allahu Khayr
Jazaakumullaahu khayran for the suggestions and I’m happy to inform you that we have been trying to fill these gaps.
Djazzakallahu khaira…..
I sent you the message already.
Assalamu alikum Dr Bilal, I have received an email that The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) is opening its doors for applications for the 2010/2011 school year. What are your thoughts regarding this university ??
Asalaam Alykum dr.bilal philips i am a grear fan of ur work i am from hyderabad, india. so i want to know more deitails of ur Al-Fajr International School i was looking for a alim coures but i dont see any good in hyderabad they are many but they are from(Tablighi Jamaat)as far as i see them they have (some skirk in them r bidah) they was role models ones 1 year ago.i am 16 only so i dont think they are in good scolars in hyderabad which i can learn from them.but also i dont think i can mange to go to chennai becuase the last time i live home for was sio(student islamic organisation of jamaate islaam)it was 3 day coures out of the city i raned from their in 1 day som i dont think i can hanndle it i have some kind of anciety prob so can u describe me some thing.
aslaam alykum again my question is about the fact of first tashahhud.i had seen ur video in which u said the Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said when the prophet(peace be upon him)was alive we use to say al-salaamu ‘alayka ayyuha’l-nabiyyu wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu (peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allaah and His blessings. after he died we use to say al-salaamu ‘ala al-nabi insted of ayyuha;’l nnabiyyu.so my q is if Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) is right r we doing skirk r haram by saying ayyuha’l-nabiyyu and if not then he should be wrong i mean Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) and is he is wrong did he created a bidah?and if so how can a man like this create some bidah and i know some scolars i red it on the site http://www.islam-qa.com of the opnions os some scolars r saying we should say as the prophet(peace be upon him)said because they say umar(may Allah be pleased with him)said we shoud say ayyuha’l-nabiyyu.Umar said this in the presence of the Sahaabah and they approved of it. so plz answer this and also about ur school in chennai……
Asalaam Alykum brother Bilal,
Let me first express my gratitude for showing me what islam is really about, because i’am a born muslim living in Holland so I grew up in a society that teaches us that being a muslim is not a good thing to be. And looking at the so called muslim around me, I thought they were right. but by watching your lectures and the lectures of others such as Zakir Naik etc. I learned to look at Islam in the right way. So thank you and may Allah Subhanna Wa Talla be pleased with you.
I would also like to ask you a question about studying psychology, because someone told me it could be haram and my research on the internet did not gave me the clarification for it. Do you know if we as muslims are allowed to study Psychology?
Salam Alaykum Wa Rah Wa Bar,
Shaykh i am very happy to learn about your blog. I would always see Bilal’s diary on your website and will be mostly disappointed to see that most of the times it would not be updated. But now i am very happy that i can get all the details from your blog.
May Allah reward you and bless you and grant you goodness in this life and in the next life for all your activities.
I have also enrolled in IOU and masha Allah have completed Usool at Tafseer course.
Please do du’a for me for the best in this life and in the next.
By the way i am from chennai India. When you were in chennai, since you were busy with Preston college and al fajr school activities i think there were no much lectures or workshops. Actually we expected you in Peace2010 also. But i think due to some visa problems you could not come. Then we felt really very sad that we could not benefit from you even though you were in chennai for some time.
I pray to Allah(swt) to solve all your visa problems and that you visiy india often insha Allah. Please also update us whether you will come back to chennai and stay here as before in the future.
Barakallahu feekum,
Kader Sahib Maricar
As salaamu alaikum
Dear Shk Bilal Philips
Firstly, I am so happy that we are able to communicate with you and benefit from your knowledge. Barak Allahu feek.
Secondly, we are in the process of looking at setting up a school in our home town of Brisbane, Australia. To achieve this, we are obviously looking at developing an islamic-centric integrative syllabus. We came across the emaan reading series that have been authored by you but have not been able to get hold of them. They seem to be out of print. We have tried in various countries (both in the west and the middle east) but to no avail. Could you please let me know whom we could contact to get hold of the copies. Also, since we are in the curriculum evaluation phase, would you be able to email through an e-copy for us to present to our school curriculum development board.
Jazakallahu khairan

Assalamu alaikum brother,
How are you? You are doing well for the sake of islam. Now i joind one of your free coures mentioned in the online islamic university. Actually i was trying to join BAIS but unfortunately my Certificate was not certified by Ministry of external affairs of India.but Insha Allah i will get it certified and will try to join in second batch. Here i have a simple suggestion that is to open a question answer session so that we can clear our doubts regarding islam. Hope you will do the needful at your end.
Asslamu alaikum

Salaam alaykum brother Suhail, You don’t need to wait until the second batch. You have two and a half months to complete the attestation process. You can go ahead with a scan of your certificate to begin your studies this semester on condition that you produce the attested version before the mid-term exam.
was salaam
Dr Bilal
wa alaykum salaam,
May Allah bless your efforts to set up the school and I hope that you will join with me in a massive project for the islamization of curriculum which I’m currently trying to kick start on the internet. But for now, here’s the contact details of the brothers handling the reprint of the Eemaan reading series:

Aassalamu alaikum Dr.Bilal.
I scanned my diploma and got an email that I have to attest it from education department and foreign ministry of Bangladesh.I went to NYC Bangladesh consular office yesterday they told me to ask you what the university actually want? This original copy has been issued by Education department, would you accept an evaluation from USA which is a kind of authentication or do I have to attest from Bangladesh foreign ministry which requires time as I am in NYC now not in Bangladesh.I came to know that we dont have Quran memorization program in first semester and most classes are recording so what is your recommendation in regards to take any other online university class besides IOU class?
wa alaykum salaam Farjana,
In shaa Allah the USA evaluation should be sufficient for now. You can send in what you have for now and work on the foreign ministry stamp, or an attestation from the Bangladesh consulate, and then the US foreign ministry stamp is sufficient. I would suggest that you take one of the available free short courses and see if it is good for you (more than 20,000 students currently registered with us). Otherwise, there is http://www.kiu.org but the system is virtually the same. There are Qur’aan memorization websites and courses available on the net. I have heard of them and come across some of them. So, you may also seek them out and enroll to enhance your studies. Our focus is on the BAIS and we do have tajweed and arabic. We do not have a program for memorization of the whole Qur’aan. However, we do hope to add that in the future.
I hate the fact that all organized religions (including Islam and Christianity) brainwash people into blindly following a particular ideology. Where is the freedom to think? Why can’t the people be free to believe in God in their own personal way, according to the particular experiences of their life? Where is the spirituality if the believers just stick to a belief system without exercising their own judgment? Organized religions are just plain hogwash aimed at establishing political supremacy of one group of people over others. The only thing they promote is to make your thought process subservient to another (prophet, monk, mullah, priest, etc.). No one can find God through organized religion.
Shaykh,
My husband is going to Bangladesh 21st March inshAllah. He will stay 6 days in SA for umrah on his way to Bangladesh. Now he can attest my diploma.Would you please tell the IOU administration to accept me and allow me to join the class from 18th March,I already uploaded all documents, asked for link to pay $50 but didn`t get any answer. What is your suggestion regarding Umm AL qura`s application,do you think he can do anything by visiting university,I sent me and his application Nov09.Why people think it is not possible for me to study there with a baby? It`s my dream to study there from my 16 yaers old age, except making dua to Allah I could have done nothing.I love to study my deen from the scholars and from their akhlaq,do you think it is not possible for me as I have a 14 months baby?Wasn`t there anybody from the Sahabah or Tabi`tabein or from the scholars who succeeded with a baby?Am I the first one trying to learn my deen which is opened for everybody?
Dear Sir
I have heard and saw you on Peace Tv a number of times and find you a prolific scholar of islam. I have a number of questions to ask about religion hence I wish to confirm if this is a proper forum to post my questions on.
For general questions on Islam, I suggest that you go to http://www.islamqa.com. If you have questions relative to what I have posted here, then this is the forum for asking such questions.
