can you please tell on how to overcome arrogance in one’s heart in order to accept the truth?
The best way to do that my brother, is to become humble and to engage in positive fruitful projects through which the Muslim community benefits rather than dedicating one’s efforts to break down and destroy the works of others striving to propagate the correct understanding of the deen. To gently advise and correct the mistakes of others rather than making sensational claims in public forums in which those under attack cannot respond. To follow ONE STANDARD, not one for those you respect and another for those you disrespect. To illustrate the double standard common to the arrogant SP (Salafi Publications and Troid) methodology, I feel you should reflect on the fact that the hadeeth and others like it which – according to brother Moosaa Richardson – I “over literally translated” are found in the books of hadeeth where anyone can read them and walk away with whatever impression they may take. They have been there without commentaries for more than a thousand years. Modern leading scholars have used them in similar ways in their responses to questions on suicide (which my writing was not), yet he has only chosen the writings of scholars which affirm his clarification.
What about these two fatwaas on suicide of Sh Al Uthaimeen – translated and put up on their site by SPUBS (http://www.spubs.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=MNJ14&articleID=MNJ140003&articlePages=1)
He should read them and seriously consider apologizing, if there is an ounce of sincerity, mercy and humility in his heart. Or shall we also understand from them that Sh Al Uthaimeen holds the view of the Khawaarij (Allah forbid)? In my case I “over literally” translated the hadeeth, what about SPUBS, I guess they did the same and its been up on their website for years and years and years misguiding decades of followers. Furthermore, if he compares what I said in the Islamic Studies Book 3 to the second fatwaa of Sh Al Uthaimeen, it is virtually identical except that the Shaikh also added the verse concerning killing a believer causing one to remain in Hell – and it seems he forgot to make even the slightest mention of Ahlus Sunnah’s position on believers not being in Hell forever!!!!
1. Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen on Attacking the enemy by blowing oneself up in a car
Question: What is the ruling regarding acts of jihaad by means of suicide, such as attaching explosives to a car and storming the enemy, whereby he knows without a doubt that he shall die as a result of this action?
Response: Indeed, my opinion is that he is regarded as one who has killed himself (committed suicide), and as a result he shall be punished in Hell, for that which is authenticated on the authority of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam).
[((Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever)), [Bukhaaree (5778) and Muslim (109 and 110)]].
However, one who is ignorant and does not know, and assumes his action was good and pleasing to Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala), then we hope Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) forgives him for that which he did out of (ignorant) ijtihaad, even though I do not find any excuse for him in the present day. This is because this type of suicide is well known and widespread amongst the people, so it is upon the person to ask the people of knowledge (scholars) regarding it, until the right guidance for him is differentiated from the error.
And from that which is surprising, is that these people kill themselves despite Allaah having fordbidden this, as He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
{And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you}, [Soorah an-Nisaa., Aayah 29].
And many amongst them do not desire anything except revenge of the enemy, by whatever means, be it halaal or haraam. So they only want to satisfy their thirst for revenge.
We ask Allaah to bless us with foresight in His Deen and action(s) which please Him, indeed He is all Powerful over all things.

2. Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen on Committing suicide
Question: What is the ruling regarding suicide in Islaam?
Response: Suicide is when a person kills himself intentionally by whatever means. This is haraam and regarded as amongst the major sins, and likewise included in the general statement of Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala):
{And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allaah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him}, [Soorah an-Nisaa, Aayah 93].
And it is established from the Sunnah on the authority of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) who said:
((Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever)), [Bukhaaree (5778) and Muslim (109 and 110)].
In reality, the one who commits suicide, generally does so because of his desperate situation, either as a direct result of an act of Allaah or a human being. So you find him unable to cope with that which has afflicted him, and in actual fact he is like one who is calling for help from the scorching heat of the fire. So he has progressed from that which was tough (bad) to that which is worse. And if he was patient, then Allaah would have assisted him in dealing with the difficulty.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen
Kayfa Nu’aalij Waaqi’unaa al-Aleem – Page 120
COMPARE THAT WITH THE SERIOUS MISTAKE WHICH I WROTE according to brother Moosaa:
Stated Dr. Bilal Philips in his book, “Islamic Studies Book 3″ (2nd edition, 2005, IIPH, Riyadh, p.85):
“…Suicide has been classified as haram (forbidden) in Islam. In fact, the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) himself informed us that one who kills himself will find himself in the Hell-fire forever, killing himself over and over again in the same way that he did in this life.2 The one who commits suicide implies by his act that Allah has unjustly burdened him beyond his God-given abilities, and such a concept is, in reality, equivalent to kufr (disbelief). ..”
If this is not a double standard, I don’t know what is. My text was taken from a larger text which was not on the topic of suicide but on the topic of Allah bringing ease after difficulty (which Sh Al Uthaimeen alluded to at the end of the second fatwaa). The Fatwaas of the Shaikh are on the topic of Suicide!!!
Assalamu ‘alaikum,
Read from Shaykh AbdulMuhsin Al-Abbaad hafidhaullah, translated by Maaz Qureish, published on SPUBS concerning Suicide Bombings from pages 13-14 entitled: “What Has Come Concerning the Muslim Committing Suicide, Intentionally or Unintentionally“.
http://spubs.com/sps/downloads/pdf/MNJ140006.pdf
May Allah guide us all to the straight path, grant us wisdom and justice and may He make us among those who do not seek out ’faults’ of the Muslims thereby humiliating them unjustly in front of the masses. Ameen.
I also find it bothering and strange that this topic related to Dr. Bilal Philips was posted under “Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimoon, Qutubiyyah, Takfiris, Extremists, Terrorists” and not under “Books and Corrections”. Is this implying that Dr. Bilal Philips is either Ikhwani, Qutubi, Takfiri, Extremist or a Terrorist or that he is promoting such ideologies, wal3iyathibillah? Will the statement of Shaykh AbdulMuhsin Al-Abbad make him (and the translator) under the same category as well?”
WaAllahul musta3aan.
wa alaykum salaam,
Jazaakumullaahu khayran Sister Maha. You have brought further evidence against SPUBS and pointed out yet another example of the “double standard”. I hope that those concerned will bring out the hundreds of examples of similar uncontested statements in SPUBS postings, books, and fatawaa to bury them in their falsehood and dishonest scholarship.
Salam Alaykum,
Sheikh, I am working as a software engineer in a company. Here we write softwares for Home theaters. Is it permissible to work in this company?
If we buy a Home theater, they will give us a Big Box which is called by different names such as AV Receiver or Amplifier or Amp etc., The AV Receiver is a very important part of a Home theater. In my company we write Audio decoding softwares and other audio softwares for this AV Receiver.
The Software we write is 50% of this product (considering only the audio part). The hardware is the other 50%. So the software we write is a very important part of the Home theatre. Can home theatre be used for Halal means? Can i continue to work in this company?
Sheikh, i have been working in this company for five years. I have been in doubt if it is halal or not for a long time. I am so weak in technical skills, so i am always afraid to make a move to some other company. Please consider my state also. Since i have been working in this company for long time. I have learnt many thing and i am able to cope up with work pressure here. But if i go to a new company, i need to learn a lot of new things and there will be huge work pressure which i wont be able to handle.
Awaiting your reply.
Barakallahu feekum
Assalamu Alaikum Dr Bilal Philips. May Allah reward you with good for your da’wah to tawheed and sunnah and forgive you and us our shortcomings.
I have a related question with regards to suicide. I understand that suicide is from the major sins and that a Muslim committing suicide would be punished severely as in the hadeeths but it does not necessitate that the person has died a Disbeliever if the action was not accompanied with juhood (belief). Some Muslims from the community should pray over such a person but the Khaleefah or Imaam should not, so as to disapprove and deter others from doing it. I believe that is the summarised and most correct opinion within the areas of ikhtilaaf amongst the Scholars as mentioned.
Now my question is specific to acts of compulsion, albeit not literally (because the person still has a choice). As in what would be the case for a Muslim who may be imprisoned and is being tortured, so he could not bear the torture and committed suicide. Or, as in many places, when bandits or rapists come over and the Muslimah is unable to defend herself and her chastity, she decides to give up her life instead of being raped. Would that count the same as one who commits suicide because of lack of patience and perseverance and therefore be treated the same?
will Allah open a sealed heart?
Salaam alaykum. Better to ask, “Can Allah open a sealed heart?” The answer is “Yes He can” and it would be for reasons related to the person’s spiritual decisions or good deeds they have done, or some other reason resulting from their deeds which Allah deemed a good reason for unsealing their heart. Which would explain why Allah may open one sealed heart and not all within the framework of Allah’s supreme justice.
What is the ruling on owning a TV which is used for both good and bad such as islamic and movies, dramas etc. if it is not permissable to own one, what can an indivisual do to advice his family of removing it from the house?
Jazakallahu khairun
A bit of good news (perhaps), the thread Moosaa started on SalafiTalk.net regarding your supposed error regarding suicide doesn’t seem to be available anymore (there is a database error that comes up when you try to access the thread’s direct link).
Salam Alaykum, DR. Bilal…
Im a muslim who is abit thorn abit one aspect of knowledge.
All that “conspiracy” movies about dajjal, new world order, gog and magog presented by “documentaries” like the arrivals, zeisgeist, obama deception, movies from hashem films, and lectures from Shiek Imran hosein… some how they make sense to me.
and these movies are very very popular among our ummah these days..
That the “elites” (rockfellers, rothchild etc) controls the western world, since hundreds of years, they secretly have sum kind “religion” involving djinns and black magic and tries to destroy our religion.. many wars are them to blame, like Palestine and Afghanistan today, and they are spreading bad information about islam, supporting the western life style “Do what you want”. that these people intentional tries to destroy our ummah. Considering the education in west. the media all of that points that way.
And Shiek Imran Hosein lectures about dajjal, gog and magog.. im not saying that i believe all of it but it some how make more sense to me what the shiek then sum that says that Allah, subhana watala, will release 5-10 billions of people hidden sum where in one occasion on our ummah… abit after the fitna of dajjal
But my knowledge is very small.. but this i know..
“Ask those who have knowledge”
I have high respect for you and are in need of your help
im not saying that belive them to 100%. Of course its in the future and abit the realm of the unseen…allah knows best.
I see it mostly as “speculation”, but can you go all the way and say that its all misguidance?
assalamu alaykum,
I will be opening a new islamic organisation. it hgelps people from taround the uk to search for organisations. i would like bilal philips to present a talk. would that be possible. please mail me back.

Mahir Hassan
Salaam,

jazakhAllah khair
Salaam,
Sheikh awaiting a final confirmation from you, i have emailed you the necessary items again today.
JAzakhAllah khair
wa alaykum salaam Brother Suleiman,
The bottom line is that all the conspiracy theories and interpretations which fly in the face of clear authentic hadeeths of the Prophet (pbuh) must be thrown aside. Putting numbers (5-10 billion) on the Gog and the Magog is incorrect with no evidence beyond speculation. Likewise saying that Imran Hosein’s specualtions make more sense than the clear statements of the Prophet (pbuh) is a grave error. Remember, that a lack of knowledge is not itself knowledge. All you can say is; “I don’t know how or from where, etc.” but if the Prophet (pbuh) said they are coming, then they are coming even if its from Mars.
or the wall is a barrier between dimensions which Allah will allow to be broken at the appointed time – and I’m not speculating, as my opinion is “Allah knows best.”
Yes, it is misguidance if it goes against the clear texts of the sunnah. As the scholars hold, interpretation is invalid in the presence of authentic sunnah.
JazakhAllah khair, Dr. Bilal
And Dr. Bilal.. 1 more question.
I live in Sweden and with the issue of Palestine and Lars Vilks…
I fear that on the day of judgement i will be asked what did during this time to fight this evil…
In the case of palestine, i gave charity to Islamic Relief and hand out information what evil the do to our brothers in palestine…
And in the case of Lars Vilks, I talked to many swedish people that i know that its not freedom of speech its just hate speech and wrote my opinion to the newpaper..
And I have sued him for hate speech but they turn it down sayin that what his doing is not a crime, and now im going appeal..
my question is.. what can we do against this kind of evil as a “normal” muslim?
Sala’am brother,
What is the conclusion behind this conference or what is the reason behind this(THE BOOK THAT SHOOK THE WORLD).i dnt undrstand.4 wht it is going 2 b held?dnt mind pls………..

Shiekh, i came upon the information of the drying up of sea of galilee also known as lake tabariyyah.
I read the hadeeth which mentions the lake of tabariyyah and its drying up , being one of the signs of the emergance of dajjal”
=====================================
….Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassaasah. We said: What is al-Jassaasah? It said: Go to this man in the monastery for he is keen to know about you. So we came rushing to you and we fled from it because we could not be sure that it was not a devil.’ He (that chained person) said: ‘Tell me about the date-palm trees of Baysaan.’ We said: ‘What do you want to know about them?’ He said: ‘I am asking you whether these trees bear fruit.’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Soon they will not bear fruit.’ He said: ‘Tell me about the lake of Tabariyyah’ We said: ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said: ‘Is there water in it?’ They said: ‘There is a great deal of water in it.’ He said: ‘Soon it will dry up.’ Then he said: ‘Tell me about the spring of Zughar (which is in the south of Syria).’ They said: ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said: ‘Is there water in the spring and do the people grow crops with the water of the spring?’ We said to him: ‘Yes, there is plenty of water in it and the people grow crops with its water.’ He said: ‘Tell me about the Prophet if the unlettered; what has he done?’ We said: ‘He has left Makkah and has settled in Yathrib (Madeenah).’ He said: ‘Do the Arabs fight against him?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘How did he deal with them?’ We told him that he had prevailed over the Arabs in his vicinity and they had shown obedience to him. He said to us: ‘Has it really happened?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘If it is so that is better for them that they show obedience to him. Now I will tell you about myself. I am the Dajjaal and soon I will be given permission to emerge. …

==================================
I saw this news video done by Sky News on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvYJefTW29A
“The waters of Galiliee have retreated hundreds of yards. The water level is now so low, the water has to be pumped uphill into the River Jordan”
Now there is another hadeeth which mentions Gog and Magog, and them being the ones who would drink up the water of tabariyyah.
How do we understand the above hadeeths ?
wa alaykum salaam.
What is happening now, is not evidence for the presence of the Gog and Magog. Also, they might come when the amount of water left will be small. So there are many different possible explanations.
salaam alaykum Abdi,
It is not so easy, though I have heard that it is possible to apply for Madeehan online now. Anyway, in the meantime, register with the Islamic Online University and benefit. http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com
wa alaykum salaam Bint e Usman,
It is about the Qur’aan: the book that shook the world. It was a series of lectures talking about different aspects of the Qur’aan. I was supposed to talk about the critics of the Qur’aan and their criticisms.
wa alaykum salaam.
You can print books or booklets which explain about Islam in Swedish and distribute them freely all around the country. Also, you can learn your religion well, so you can defend the religion properly. Join http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com
Your responsibility is to take the true message of Islam to the people of Sweden.
salaam alaykum.
Collect some dvds of lectures on the media and tv and let the family watch it. Also, non-Muslims have done a lot of research into the harm of TV. Look it up on google scholar search and share it with your family. Otherwise, get the TV connected to all the Islamic channels and encourage them to watch the islamic channels. Buy lots of other good dvds of Islamic lectures for them. And, before all of that, make lots of du’aa for them.
wa alaykum salaam. As you said, the examples you gave would not be the same as one who committed suicide out of a lack of patience. Although in both cases, issues of patience are there. At any rate, Allah knows best. But, a believer who commits suicide will leave paradise and will not reside there forever.
salaam alaykum.
Yes you can work for the company as the equipment is neutral and can be used for good or evil.
